Muharram FAQs

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar, marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year and a period of mourning for the martyrdom of Imam Hussain.

Muharram 2024 is expected to start on the evening of Monday, July 8th, and end on the evening of Wednesday, August 7th, 2024.

Muslims fast during Muharram, particularly on the 10th day (Ashura), to commemorate the sacrifices of Imam Hussain and his followers and to seek spiritual purification.

The Muharram Water Appeal is an initiative by Albaraka Trust to provide clean and safe drinking water to underprivileged communities during the sacred month of Muharram.
